Is it Minmatar or Winmatar?

Pod Pilot Report Agatir Solenth:

Greetings my fellow pod pilots and blog readers!

It is a sad day in EvE when as a Amarrian character you have to come to admit the Minmatar really are better.  Even worse... it is because of the supposed "trash" they are suppose to be flying.  Sadly, when you get down to it, they are most likely the most versatile race for PvP.

What you quickly learn when you begin to fly in alliance gangs is that you have to be versatile.  One day you will called to fly armor tanked ships, the next day shield, other times small fast ones.  Most races require you to specialize in one form, but the Minmatar have the luxury of having the capability to do them all.  They may not be the best tankers, but they can get enough tank out of their setups.  Even worse, a good portion of their ships have the additional advantage of speed.  One of the key components to success in a fight is the ability to dictate the field of battle. (ie range)  Ships with speed do it best... and there are not a lot of ships that will keep up with the "Winmatar".  Why else would their ships be so prevalent on the killboards?  Especially in cruiser sized hulls or smaller.

Once a character advances to Minmatar Cruiser 5 skill, and this is when they truly begin to become dangerous.

Lets look at some of ships that they have to offer:

T1
Rifter (Frigate) - Pound for pound considered to be the best PvP ship in the game!
Stabber & Rupture (Cruiser) - Good ships to cut your teeth in PvP and learn how to fly Minmatar.
Hurricane (Battle Cruiser) -  Can you find a small gang/fleet that doesn't have a handful of these present?
Maelstrom & Tempest (Battleships) - Solid workhorses & can you say, "Alpha Strike"?

T2
Vagabond (Heavy Assault) - Anyone that has attempted to pin one of these down know what I'm talking about.
Muninn (Heavy Assault) - I have heard of corps using these to power PvP fleets.
Rapier (Recon) - How do you counter speed?  With webs silly.
Scimitar (Logistics) - If you have a shield based fleet... this IS the logistics ships to have.

T3
Loki (Strategic Cruiser) - It is a T3, with webbing bonuses & ability to tank, need I say more?

Now I am not saying that the "Winmatar" are the omg I so leet absolute best!  (they are close)  However, if you want to learn how to PvP the Minmatar ships are the best place to start.  Increasing both armor and shield skills will make you more effective in using other Minmatar ships, and worth the time and effort to maximize them.  Since you will be using only one race to fly in all fleet, you can generally specialize in one classification of turrents - projectiles.  The skills you will learn while flying any of these ships will directly translate to the piloting of other races ships.

In other words... by starting out in Minmatar you will get a good foundation of skills and experience that will translate much more easily when you decide to hop races.

Until next time...

So it begins...

Pod Pilot Report Agatir Solenth:

Greetings my fellow pod pilots and blog readers!

I've begun my assimilation into Noir., and I have to admit it can be a bit intimidating.  They have their stuff down to a science.  It is made quite clear it is their way or gtfo!  The good news is that their forums are filled with the needed information.  So it is a bit of "back to school," as I read everything that is required and expected of me.  This has made me have to refit more than a couple of ships, but you got to do... what ya got to do.  As I said before, I want to get good at PvP, and I don't see me getting a better chance to learn.  This has made me begin learning Minmatar Cruiser 5, a vital skill for some of the ships I'll have to fly.  Some of my old corpmates would be in shock to learn that. (I've an aversion to flying slave ships!)  Luckily, I already had it to 4.

I have been assigned a "buddy" to help me with this indoctrination process.  He is there to answer some of those questions you don't want to ask, in fear of looking foolish, but really need answered.  So, I'd like to give Franklen a shout out for his help and guidance.

This welcome change has gotten this EvE veteran excited about logging in again.  I am getting set to go on my first contract, I can't wait for it to begin

Until next time,

Be bold...

As one thing comes to an end.... Another begins.

Pod Pilot Report Agatir Solenth:

Greetings my fellow pod pilots and blog readers!

It is official.  As of this week I have dropped all roles from SI Radio, and have set out on a new adventure.  At first I was not sure where I was going to land?  Many of my old corp had already left.  The majority had traveled toward Goon space, to become part of BSC Legion which was now part of TNT Alliance.

I have to admit I was tempted.  I had flown with those Brits for awhile now down in Tenerifis, and they are a friendly bunch.  However it seemed if I chose that path I'd just be doing the same thing that I had done before, and I wanted something different.

I also applied with two corps based in W-Space.  One, a small but developing corp based around shield tanking, the other a well established armor gang.  As I am Amarr-centric the more established corp seemed the right choice.  The smaller younger corp appealed to me... Why?  Because when you are "new" to EvE you have that sense of adventure.  When you have that, you have the willingness to try things, even if you are going to fail.  I really liked that.  So I began the interview/application song and dance with them.  So that I could see if they thought I might fit in with them.

You would be surprised at my final decision...

Neither!

That is right, just as I thought I would go one way, Alekseyev Karrde of Noir. made me another offer.  An offer I could not refuse.  He didn't want to see the core of us SI Radio folks be spread to the winds due real life situations.  So he was willing to accept us into the mercenary fold until our leaders could return.  This would allow us to develop our small gang tactics.

I'd like to think it was because that we showed some promise when we flown with Noir. in Providence.  However, I don't think our killboard stats would support that.  What I do know: I like being part of a team, I like learning new things, and I love to blow people up in EvE!

I hope I get to all of that... before I have a chance to show them just what a noob I really am, and get booted back to the newbie corp.

Until next time...

Be bold...

Agatir’s Guide to Wormhole Hunting… err I mean Scouting

Greetings my fellow pod pilots & blog readers...

This is a re-posting and edit of a previous post I did over at theplanetriskshow.

***Disclaimer*** This guide represents the way I go about scouting out Wormholes.  The loss of any ship while attempting what is discussed below will be your own damn fault.  It also assumes you know the basic mechanics of exploration scanning. (Exploration Guide & Exploration Tutorial)

Ok so you want to put your exploration skills to the test?  There will be few things that you will need before you decide to venture into wormhole (WH) space.  The first will be the skills, second is the hardware, third situational awareness, and finally how to use all three to your advantage.  Lacking in anyone of these can only lead to the loss of another ship, and end up with an immediate clone jump back to your chosen station.  Depending on whether you are simply scanning (exploring) the wormhole or hunting (pvp) greatly affects how you need to go about the task.  I will explain in each section as to the difference, but stressing more of the aspects of hunting.

Betrayal in the Caldari State

Pod Pilot Report Agatir Solenth:

Greetings my fellow pod pilots and blog readers!

I got the idea when I began this blog to Google my name. As it turns out it has a particular meaning...

It appears that a role playing pod pilot by the name of Kenreikko Valitonen has created the Napanii Primer. This primer is an attempt to create the general foundation for the Napannii language. Napanii, once dead but then resurrected during war with Gallente, is the more formal/institutional language language used in the Caldari State. Caldari is the second, and more common tongue.

Quite simply Agatir is the root word for betrayal!

I kind of like the sound of that...

Greetings my fellow pod pilots

Pod Pilot Report - Agatir Solenth:

Greetings my fellow pod pilots...  Some of you may know me from my blogging over at www.theplanetriskshow.com.  Like many corps, alliances, blogs, and podcast in EvE experience SI Radio is beginning to implode due to lack of activity of membership and leadership.  So I have dared to be bold, and move ahead alone.

This little blog will document the things I encounter along the way.

Until next time...
