Death of a Thanny

EXHALE. Story Time: Eleniti - 2013.03.07

Greetings my fellow alliance men, women, & fellow blog readers!!!

Here is a little story told by one of my fellow alliance mates about a recent encounter.

A short depictions of events that led to the demise of Thanatos-class carrier in a C1 wormhole

INTRO

To build a Thanatos-class carrier vessel one requires approximately 830 000 m3 of minerals. These are then built into capital components that are subsequently used to build the actual ship. These capital spaceships cannot traverse lower end wormholes and as such must be built in system. To build one of these behemoths in a C1 the minerals must be hauled into the system in small quantities ranging from 15 000 to 30 000 cubic meters at a time due to the mass limitations of the holes leading in to a C1 system. A quick calculation shows that this translates roughly to 28-56 haul trips in to the system. Of course the actual number of jumps needed is double that simply because one haul trip includes two jumps ; a Herculean endeavor to say the least. After the ship is launched from the X-large ship assembly array in a lower end wormhole it is forever trapped; it will live and die in that system. Following this natural cycle - a Thanatos named “Wave” that had been birthed in a C1 system, perished in one.

JUMP IN EvE Time 18:45

The usual mundane tasks of wormhole life were interrupted yesterday by a short and brief announcement on TS: “Form-up on static, we may have carriers to kill”. More information was relayed to line members of Exhale and intel suggested that in a C1 system some POCO’s had been reinforced by Surely you’re Joking (SYJ) members. This had triggered the residents to deploy carriers to rep the POCOS. We wanted to kill those carriers.
Forward scouts in heavy recon T3’s were sent to the entry system to scan for a way in. After a short delay that was caused by the good old Lex Exhale* we gained entrance into system. System was quickly scanned, hostile POS’s pinpointed and known enemy characters added to watch list. Once the system was secured the main fleet was called in to the system – ships with cloaking fields activated them and the rest of the fleet logged out. First POCO RF timer was counting down 1hr 55mins 20s…

LURING  EvE Time 20:30

Heavy recons remained vigilant and kept an eye on the POCO’s and the POS’s for almost two hours. The rest of the fleet was logged out and SYJ had logged in to the system also. The SYJ members (2 of them) attacked a POCO on planet XI after all of the three POCOS had come out RF without any attempt from the locals to rep them. The SYJ warily orbited and shot the POCO in an attempt to lure the residents into action. The residents had logged in a Thanatos pilot and a Drake pilot and they were sitting on the POS at this time. Another hostile ship, a Buzzard, had started to scan the system and we knew this was the first signs that the residents might try to rep or attack the SYJ guys in their Attack BC’s.

BITING EvE time 21:00

The buzzard took its time to secure and scan the system and even took a peek into the static HS. The residents thought they were safe – they warped the Drake on to the POCO which assaulted the two attack battle cruisers.  The whining: “The-drake-has-been-nerfed-to-oblivion” was proved utterly wrong as the Drake manages to force the SYJ Talos to warp of and the remaining Oracle can’t break its tank. TS rang out: “Thanatos is moving , thanatos is aligning" and after a short but tense pause :  "Thanatos warped”. Long seconds passed until the heavy recons on the besieged POCO reported: “Thanatos on close range D-scan”. The residents had taken the bait.

FILLETING EvE Time 21:15

On command , the Exhale heavy recons revealed themselves and assaulted the Drake that took a respectable amount of punishment:

In an attempt to lure the second carrier on to the field the rest of the fleet was ordered to hold on the login screen. The Drake was grinded down but no one was logging in to save the stricken carrier. The command rang out : “Main fleet: LOG IN and lets finish this”.

Carrier down  - and several days’ worth of mineral hauling blown up:

The fit was somewhat peculiar to say the least:
